Saudi princess didn’t praise Duterte; wrong photo used

Image on quote card shows Lebanese former actress Mia Khalifa who's passed off as a Saudi princess praising President Duterte

No Saudi Arabian princess by the name of “Princess Ameera Naser Khalifa” has expressed support for President Rodrigo Duterte, contrary to what a quote card claims. And the photo on the card is not of a Saudi princess, but of a former Lebanese adult film actress.

The fabricated quote card posted June 14 on the Facebook group Prophecy Prime Minister Rodrigo Roa Duterte claimed “Princess Ameera Naser Khalifa, Saudi princess daughter of King Abdullah” had said:

President Duterte proves to be a hero by using his leadership skills to protect his country in times of recession. He have (sic) inspired me to be better, try harder, and never give up!

A cursory search on Google shows no such quote from such a person or a Saudia Arabian princess.

The late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s sixth king, had several daughters by several women but apparently none prominently named Ameera.

A famous former Saudi princess that goes by the name of Ameera is Ameerah Al Taweel, daughter of Aidan bin Nayef Al-Taweel Al-Otaibi, a member of the house of Saud.

A humanitarian, philanthropist and entrepreneur, Al Taweel in 2008 married Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a nephew of King Abdullah and one of the richest men in the world; they divorced in 2013. She remarried in 2018, to Emirati entrepreneur and billionaire Khalifa Bin Butti Al Muhairi and gave birth to their first child in 2019.

A reverse image search shows that the woman in the fabricated quote card is not a Saudi Arabian princess but Mia Khalifa, Mia Callista in real life, a Lebanese former adult film actress and social media personality with more than 20 million followers on Instagram.

Her photo in the post has been previously used for memes, the most popular of which says, “Hijab is my choice, not compulsion.”

Khalifa quit the adult film industry after she received death threats from ISIS in 2015 for a video showing her having sex while wearing a hijab.

A search of Al Taweel and Khalifa on the web shows neither has commented on the Duterte presidency. (CC)
