FactRakers regrets error in report on Mendoza comment

On April 24, 2025, FactRakers published a fact-check article titled “Mendoza falsely linked to fake comment vs Quimbo,” which incorrectly reported a Facebook comment by senatorial candidate Heidi Mendoza on a post about Marikina mayoral candidate Stella Quimbo as fake and the image where the comment appears as altered.

We have since confirmed that the comment in question was indeed posted by Mendoza. It originally appeared under a March 24 post of the Facebook page Nutribun Republic. 

Nutribun Republic later published a separate post reusing the same image and inserting a screengrab of Mendoza’s comment, the version we mistakenly cited in our fact check.

Following the publication of our article, Nutribun Republic linked the original post where the comment was made. Mendoza also confirmed its authenticity in a comment on the response. 

We sincerely apologize to Mendoza, Nutribun Republic and our readers for this unintentional error. 

The article has been retracted, and FactRakers is strengthening its verification protocols to prevent similar mistakes in future fact checks.
