Altered screenshots misrepresent Quimbo’s Easter message

Screenshots from Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo’s recorded public address on Easter Sunday have been digitally altered to show misleading quotes suggesting she was rushing her electoral campaign against rival mayoral candidate Rep. Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro and setting self-serving conditions for a proposed electoral debate.
Two photos posted on April 20 by Facebook account Pulitika Marikina hours after Quimbo’s six-minute recorded message was uploaded show edited stills of her address with these fake quotes:
I invite Congresswoman Maan Teodoro. naghahapit na ako. Ilang linggo na lang eleksyon na pero lamang ka pa rin (I am rushing. The election is only for a few more weeks and yet you’re still surpassing me).
Tara. Magharap tayo. Basta bawal pag-usapan ang mga bag, relo, sapatos, alahas, artista van, at kung magkano ang nakukuha ko sa kongreso (Let’s face each other. Only under the conditions that we can’t talk about bags, watches, shoes, jewelry, vans and how much I get from Congress)
The manipulated quotes were extracted from Quimbo’s address which in its original form simply read, “I invite Congresswoman Maaan Teodoro” (4:20 mark), and “Tara. Magharap tayo” (4:23 mark).
As part of Quimbo’s message for Easter, she called upon Teodoro to a town hall debate to uphold the rights of Marikenyos to fair and informed elections based on facts and each candidate’s platform and track record.
Quimbo also addressed misinformation circulating about her and other candidates, saying Marikenyos were fed up with it.
FactRakers previously debunked another false claim involving Quimbo: a Facebook reel alleging she was summoned by the Supreme Court for theft allegations when in truth, she was called to oral arguments in a petition challenging the 2025 national budget.
Pulitika Marikina’s post has garnered 366 reactions, 182 comments and 175 shares as of April 21. Created in April 2024, the self-described news and government website has amassed 1,600 likes and 6,300 followers. (JPC)
